Cable options for small cells just got easier

Options for ordering coffee may be a little more challenging these days but that doesn’t have to be the same for small cell cables. Jeff Epstein gives an update on the new options for super-flex foam coaxial cables.

19_LSF-X_cable_ektronOrdering coffee used to be simple -- your only option was “Do you want milk or sugar with that?” Now, a typical order sounds like stream of consciousness – “I’ll have a triple, venti, half-sweet, non-fat, with caramel drizzle, extra cream, at 120 degrees” or “Can I get a grande, iced, sugar-free, vanilla latte with soy milk”. You truly can get your coffee any way you want it.

And now it’s the same with super-flexible foam coaxial cables. Meeting your RF requirements for small cell installations used to mean thicker jumpers, which meant less flexibility, and a more difficult installation. Then came last year’s LSF2 at a bendable 3/8” diameter, and comparable attenuation to a larger ½” cable, with super low loss performance to satisfy your link budget. But that was only available in specific fixed lengths.

The LSF-X now comes with a connector at one end and is field-fittable at the other end. That means you can have the jumper be the exact length you need. It’ll never be too short to make the connection, and you’ll never have to worry about forcing extra cable in a tight space. And it’s still in the same 3/8” diameter.

There’s also CommScope’s LSF-W, which has soft-sided UV-rated silicone rubber boots for simple, one-handed installation and reliable sealing in extreme hot or cold environments.

You might not want a doughnut with your cable, but like your coffee, you can get your small cell cables exactly the way you want it.
